​Grade 1-2 Students explored Jazz music. We used different art mediums to represent the sounds of Jazz. We had a jazz band visit us and help us create our own school jazz song. We then created a book that that has poems about different instruments and sounds. ​

First we set up a white sheet and a projector to create shadow movement to music.

The grade 1-2 class listened to one song called "River" by Jazz Musician Rubin. The students created art (being given the choice of mediums to use to create the art) that represented their interpretations.

As a thank you for our artist in residence (Samantha Whelan Kotkas) and the jazz musicians who spent time with us to create a school jazz song, the students wrote a book to give to them. Click on the images below to read it...
